Engulfed in Flames!”—Two Dead as Trucks Collide Head-On Along Eldoret–Malaba Highway
Tragedy struck on Tuesday night near Turbo Market in Mwamba, Tharaka Nithi County, when two trailers collided head-on and burst into flames. The horrific crash claimed two lives instantly and caused a massive traffic jam along the busy Eldoret–Malaba highway.
“It Was a Nightmare”—Witnesses Recall Fiery Collision
According to eyewitnesses, one trailer attempted to overtake on a hill. Meanwhile, another truck sped toward it from the opposite direction.
“The lorry tried overtaking uphill,” a shaken witness said. “The other came fast. They collided and exploded,” he added.

The impact was so intense that both vehicles were engulfed in flames within seconds. Residents and motorists watched helplessly as fire consumed the wreckage.
“We saw flames. We couldn’t do anything,” another witness recalled.
“We Rushed to Help”—Rescue Crews Battle Inferno
“We did our best to control the fire,” a rescue worker said. “But the damage was already done,” he added.
At the time of reporting, the number of injured passengers remained unclear. Authorities have yet to confirm how many people were inside the trucks.
“Traffic Came to a Standstill”—Highway Paralyzed
The accident caused a major traffic snarl. Vehicles lined up for kilometers as curious onlookers gathered at the scene.
“We were stuck for hours,” a motorist complained. “No one could move. It was chaos,” he added.

Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash.

“Passengers were trapped. It was terrifying,” a survivor said.
Kenya Red Cross and Nairobi County emergency teams responded swiftly to rescue the injured.
“We pulled people out. Some were badly hurt,” a responder confirmed.
“We can’t keep losing lives like this,” a Nairobi resident lamented.
