Super Metro in Yet Another Accident: Public Outcry Grows as Concerns Deepen
On April 6, videos flooded social media, showing a 33-seater Super Metro matatu off the road along Ngong Road. The vehicle’s front wheels rested on a curb, hinting at brake failure as the likely cause.
Reports also claimed the matatu knocked down a boda boda rider, although, thankfully, no fatalities or serious injuries have been confirmed.
The incident marks the second major accident involving the sacco in just over a week.
A Pattern of Concern
On March 29, another Super Metro matatu overturned after colliding with a private car along Thika Superhighway.
Miraculously, no lives were lost in that accident either. However, the back-to-back incidents are now raising serious public safety questions.

A Troubling History
Not long ago, Super Metro was temporarily banned by NTSA after a disturbing incident where a crew member allegedly threw a passenger out of a moving vehicle during a fare disagreement.
Yet now, with fresh accidents emerging, many Kenyans are wondering: what did NTSA actually inspect?
Social Media Erupts
Following the April 6 crash, netizens unleashed a storm of reactions online. Here’s what some had to say:
- @wrld.of_culture: “Shetani amewekea Super Metro multibet.”
- @utokaze: “Wanapoteza nyota ama walikosea nani?”
- @heisonyare: “Super Metro na Kairo wanakiona hii mwaka ajab.”
- @shian_omani: “Operating on multibet… they should take some time off honestly.”
- @twizzlemebum: “Brakes failed? I thought they went for NTSA inspection… or was that just for show?”
Some tried to defend the sacco:
- @TerryRa: “This sacco is good… we focus on 10 bad cases and ignore the 100 working vehicles.”
What Next for Super Metro?
Despite being one of Nairobi’s most trusted saccos, Super Metro is now under a growing cloud of scrutiny. With each new incident, confidence continues to erode.
Many commuters now demand answers, reforms, and accountability. As the pressure mounts, only swift action and transparent communication will restore public trust.
