CS Murkomen Makes Bold Security Shake-Up Amid Rising Insecurity
In a bold and urgent move, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced sweeping leadership changes in the Ministry of Interior. These changes aim to bolster service delivery and restore security in volatile regions.
In a press statement released on Saturday, July 26, Murkomen unveiled a list of new appointees. Jacob Namulen will now serve as the Principal Administrative Secretary, joined by Beverly Opwora. Thomas Saka takes over as the Internal Ministry’s Secretary, while Moses Kipkoech assumes the role of Secretary of National Administration.
“Deployment has been reorganised to take effect immediately,” Murkomen said.
“Congratulations and godspeed as you embark on your new roles,” he added.
Additionally, Dickson Liyayi was appointed Secretary in charge of policy. Meanwhile, Gilbert Kitiyo and Joshua Nkanatha were designated as Regional Commissioners for Nairobi and Central Kenya, respectively.

These changes come at a time when insecurity continues to rise, particularly in the North Rift region, where banditry has taken a deadly toll. The Interior Ministry is under intense pressure to deliver swift and effective solutions.
While speaking during the Jukwa la Usalama forum in Elgeyo Marakwet on Friday, July 25, Murkomen acknowledged the dire state of affairs.
“Banditry has severely undermined the security and stability of this region,” he stated.
“Lives have been lost, and families displaced. Enough is enough,” he declared.
As part of the government’s fresh strategy, Murkomen introduced an amnesty programme for armed bandits. The initiative is expected to recover over 6,000 illegal firearms and reintegrate former bandits into society.

“Instead of waiting for the police to come for you, present yourself,” Murkomen urged.
“If you had not committed any offence, but had an illegal gun, we will forgive you,” he assured.
“If you do that, we will go a step further to take you to college,” the CS added, highlighting scholarship offers.
