CS Murkomen Confirms 10% Police Salary Increase as Gov’t Targets Banditry Menace
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has finally broken the silence on the long-awaited police salary increment, confirming that the second phase of the 10% salary increase is underway.
Addressing Nandi residents during the Jukwa la Usalama forum on Thursday, Murkomen reassured officers that the government had not abandoned its promise. Instead, he explained that the increment is being implemented in phases, tied to the current 2025/2026 financial year budget.
“Last year, a ten per cent increase was made for police officers who are in the lower cadre,” Murkomen stated.
“This year, another ten per cent increase will be done.”
Gov’t Urges Patience Amid Disquiet
Rumors had been circulating about unrest within the police force over salary delays. But Murkomen dismissed those claims as misleading.

“We’ve just crossed into the new financial year. Exchequer releases are still ongoing,” he explained.
“There’s no need to worry. The increment will be implemented.”
He further assured officers that should any hiccups arise, the National Police Service Commission was fully empowered to resolve them.
“If there’s an issue, the Commission will handle it,” Murkomen affirmed confidently.
War Against Banditry: Firearms Recovery Underway
In the same address, Murkomen turned attention to another pressing issue—banditry in the North Rift.
“Banditry remains a thorn in the flesh for our people in this region,” he said.
He disclosed that police are now recovering between 5,000 and 10,000 illegal firearms believed to be in the hands of dangerous criminals.
“These bandits did not only kill Father Alloys. They’ve taken many lives over the years,” Murkomen lamented.
However, he quickly noted that progress is being made.
“In the past one month, we’ve tried to manage the situation—and there is progress,” he assured the crowd.
Arrests and Pursuits Intensify
“Some of the criminals have been captured. Others were neutralized. More are still being pursued,” he confirmed.
