Charles Kanjama Elected New LSK President
Nairobi, Kenya – Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama has been elected the 52nd President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), securing a decisive victory in the February 19 elections to lead more than 20,000 practising advocates across the country.
The election, supervised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), saw over 18,000 registered lawyers eligible to cast their votes. Kanjama will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028, succeeding outgoing President Faith Odhiambo, who has been credited with steering the society through some of Kenya’s most turbulent legal and constitutional debates.
A formal handover is expected in March 2026, with transition arrangements already underway between Kanjama’s incoming team and Odhiambo’s administration at the LSK headquarters in Nairobi.

P
Campaign and Agenda
Kanjama’s campaign was anchored on the RIPE agenda – a four-point platform focusing on Rule of Law, Integrity, Practice and Welfare, and Engagement. His message resonated with advocates across Kenya’s 47 counties, many of whom expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen the society’s role in defending constitutionalism and advancing members’ welfare.
“I am humbled by the trust placed in me by my colleagues. Together, we will uphold the rule of law, protect the integrity of the profession, and ensure that the welfare of advocates remains central to our work,” Kanjama said after being declared winner.
Election Results
Kanjama secured 3,728 votes, comfortably ahead of his closest rival Peter Wanyama, who garnered 2,616 votes. Outgoing Vice President Mwaura Kabata finished third with 2,086 votes.

Kabata was among the first to concede and congratulate the new president.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Charles Kanjama SC, who has been entrusted by advocates to serve as their 52nd President of the Law Society,” Kabata stated. “We will support the new council as they undertake their mandate,” he added.
Reactions and Congratulations
Prominent figures quickly extended their congratulations. Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka praised Kanjama’s election as a win for the profession, while Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale described him as a personal friend and deserving leader.
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo also offered her warm wishes, despite having initially supported another candidate.
Role of the LSK President
As LSK President, Kanjama will chair the governing Council, represent advocates in regional and international forums, and lead public interest litigation on constitutional and human rights matters. His role will also involve engaging with government institutions, the judiciary, and civil society on issues affecting the rule of law and access to justice.

Legal analysts note that Kanjama’s tenure will be closely watched, given the society’s pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s legal landscape and its influence on national debates around governance and constitutional reforms.
Conclusion
Charles Kanjama’s election marks a new chapter for the Law Society of Kenya. With a strong mandate and a clear agenda, he is expected to steer the society through critical legal and constitutional issues while championing the welfare of advocates. As the transition unfolds, the legal fraternity awaits how his leadership will shape the future of one of Kenya’s most influential professional bodies.
