Douglas Kanja: LSK Asks IG of Police to Resign for Attending William Ruto’s Political Rally
“From the onset, we must point out that the Inspector-General has a constitutional obligation to serve all Kenyans impartially, regardless of political affiliation,” Odhiambo stated.
Odhiambo demanded that Kanja issue a public apology and withdraw from all political engagements immediately.
“We demand an immediate public apology by the Inspector General for his conduct, which is unbecoming of the position he holds. We equally demand that he refrains from engaging in any political mobilization, rallies, and discourse in his official capacity,” she added.
“If the Inspector-General is unwilling to serve all Kenyans impartially, we invite him to step aside and allow the role to be occupied by an individual who will uphold the rule of law without imposing political biases on the people of Kenya,” Odhiambo asserted.

Previous Calls for IG Kanja’s Resignation
This is not the first time Kanja has faced calls to resign. In 2024, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also demanded his resignation, accusing him of failing to address abductions of government critics. Gachagua claimed that Kanja and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) director-general Mohamed Amin had neglected their duty, allowing cases of enforced disappearances to persist.
What Next for IG Kanja?
As pressure mounts, all eyes are on Kanja’s next move. Will he issue a public apology or defy calls for his resignation? The coming days will determine whether the country’s top cop can weather this political storm or if he will be forced to step aside.
