Two Key Suspects Arrested
Police have arrested two prime suspects, Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albanus Mutinda, in connection with Scott’s mysterious killing. The duo was arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Monday, March 3.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects, along with others still at large, allegedly murdered Scott before dumping his body in a Makueni thicket. Investigators revealed that the suspects fled to Mombasa after committing the crime on February 18.
Chilling Details from Investigators
Detectives suspect Scott was killed in a house in Pipeline owned by one of the accused.
“The deceased was taken to Pipeline at the first respondent’s house, where it is believed he was murdered before his body was disposed of in Makongo forest,” the investigators stated.
Authorities also discovered multiple withdrawal attempts from Scott’s bank account across Nairobi, Voi, and Mombasa. Police believe the suspects tried to access his finances after his death.
Court Grants 21-Day Detention
Detectives sought additional time to conduct forensic analysis and record witness statements. The court agreed, granting a 21-day detention to allow further investigations before pressing formal charges.
The two suspects will remain in custody at the Capital Hill and Kilimani Police Stations.
Scott’s Last Movements Before Murder
CCTV footage provided critical insights into Scott’s final hours. The 58-year-old director at credit scoring firm Fico was last seen on Sunday, February 16, after attending a conference at JW Marriott Hotel.
How Police Traced the Key Suspect to Voi
Detectives cracked the case by tracing a phone belonging to the last person seen with Scott. The signal was detected in Voi, Taita Taveta County, before the device was switched off.
A taxi driver who dropped off Scott and his companion at Pipeline was later arrested. Police found that Scott’s phone signal was last active over 330 kilometers from where his body was eventually discovered.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities believe more suspects could be involved. Investigators continue to pursue forensic leads and question witnesses as they build a case against those responsible for Scott’s brutal killing.
