Nuru Okanga Visits Jailed Ex-Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Reveals Shocking Updates

Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu is currently incarcerated at Industrial Area Prison, Nairobi. He was convicted of conflict of interest in a KSh 588 million corruption case. The court found him guilty of fraudulently awarding county tenders to a company owned by his family. As a result, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison or an alternative fine of KSh 52.5 million.

Nuru Okanga’s Visit: A Glimpse Behind Bars

Political aspirant Nuru Okanga recently visited Waititu and shared his observations. Okanga confirmed that the ex-governor remains in prison and is dressed in the official striped uniform.

“Waititu ako Industrial Area na ako na hiyo uniform ya wafungwa,” Okanga revealed.

Health Struggles and Hospitalization

According to Okanga, Waititu is struggling to adjust to prison life. Shortly after sentencing, his health deteriorated, forcing authorities to rush him to the hospital. Though he has since stabilized, he continues to face health challenges and relies on medication.

“Aliniambia alikuwa hospitalini na akapewa madawa, na anaendelea poa,” Okanga added.

Political Interference and Selective Justice?

Okanga alleged that powerful political figures are influencing Waititu’s case for selfish gains. He claimed that despite other politicians facing similar charges, many remain free while Waititu serves time.

“Kuna watu wengi sana wameiba pesa na wako huku nje wanatembea,” he lamented.

He further suggested that Waititu’s political ideologies may have contributed to his downfall.

“Waititu ile kitu inamkula ni siasa,” Okanga claimed.

Tight Security at Industrial Area Prison

Okanga described the rigorous security measures at the facility. He underwent a thorough search before meeting Waititu, and authorities confiscated his phone upon entry. Despite the strict prison conditions, Waititu reportedly remains in good spirits as he awaits further legal proceedings.

Waititu’s Legal Battles: A Long Road to Justice

Investigations into Waititu’s financial dealings began in 2019 when EACC detectives raided his homes. The case dragged on for years, culminating in a verdict on February 12, 2025. In June 2023, proceedings were temporarily halted after Waititu collapsed at home and was hospitalized at Aga Khan Hospital.

As he serves his sentence, Kenyans continue debating whether his conviction was justified or politically motivated. Will justice prevail, or is Waititu another casualty of selective prosecution?
