Brace for Delays: KURA Announces 28-Day Nighttime Traffic Disruption on Ngong Road
Nairobi motorists are bracing for a month-long traffic disruption as the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) begins a critical phase of flyover construction along Ngong Road. The disruption, which will affect the area near Junction Mall, is set to run from November 18 to December 10, 2025.
“We Urge Motorists to Be Cautious” — KURA Issues Public Notice
In a public notice issued on Thursday, November 6, KURA confirmed that the disruption will allow for the erection of a steel structure for the ongoing flyover project.

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to notify the general public of a temporary traffic disruption along Ngong Road around the Junction Mall Area effective Tuesday, 18th November 2025, to Wednesday, 10th December 2025,” the statement read.
The works will take place nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., excluding Sundays. During this period, traffic will be diverted between the Nairobi City County Training School and Kenya Science Campus.
“We’re Building for the Future” — Flyover to Ease Congestion
The flyover, part of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road junction upgrade, is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion once completed. KURA previously announced that the four-lane flyover will feature improved junctions, walkways, and cycling lanes.
“Construction of the Ngong Rd–Naivasha Rd (Junction Mall) Flyover is well underway,” KURA stated in July. “The project features a 4-lane flyover, improved junctions, walkways & cycling lanes, set to ease congestion and boost urban mobility.”
The entire project, including an 800-metre-long bridge and dual carriageway, is scheduled for completion by July 2027.
“Expect Delays, Plan Ahead” — Motorists Advised to Follow Directions

“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section,” the authority warned. “Please observe all traffic signs and directions issued by police officers and traffic marshals.”
“Inconvenience Today, Relief Tomorrow” — Residents React to Disruption
While some Nairobians expressed frustration over the timing of the works, others welcomed the long-term benefits.
“It’s a headache now, but we need better roads,” said a commuter from Dagoretti. “We just hope they finish on time.”
The flyover is expected to improve traffic flow along one of Nairobi’s busiest corridors, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
“Urban Mobility Is Changing” — Nairobi’s Road Network Expands
“We’re building for the future. Nairobi must move,” a KURA official said.
As construction continues, patience and planning will be key for all road users.
