Ademba Allans Alleges Govt Intimidation After Losing Social Media Account
In a statement shared on March 29 via X (formerly Twitter), Ademba disclosed that his TikTok account—one he said had attracted millions of views and tens of thousands of followers—was taken down without prior warning. He accompanied the claim with screenshots indicating the suspension notice issued by the platform.
“This is just one of the threats after the government released its state machinery on me,” Ademba alleged, linking the action to his growing online influence and civic mobilisation efforts.
Massive Online Reach Disrupted
Ademba further revealed performance metrics from his account, which he claims made him a target. The data indicated over 18 million post views, 325,000 profile visits, 1.6 million likes, 52,000 comments, and more than 63,000 shares.
He argued that the scale of engagement reflected a growing audience that, in his view, may have attracted unwanted attention from authorities.
While the exact reason for the suspension remains unclear, Ademba maintains that the move is part of a broader pattern of suppression targeting outspoken voices online.
Claims of Broader Intimidation
Beyond the account suspension, the activist alleged that he has been subjected to additional forms of intimidation, though he declined to disclose specifics, citing safety concerns.
“If I reveal the other ways this government has been intimidating me, my life will be in danger,” he stated, suggesting that the situation extends beyond digital platforms.
He added that he has since altered his communication methods, opting to use a basic feature phone—commonly referred to as a “kabambe”—in a bid to minimise digital tracking and surveillance risks.
Experts note that while such devices lack internet-based tracking systems, they can still be monitored through network identifiers, albeit with reduced vulnerability compared to smartphones.
Wider Concerns Over Digital Freedoms
Critics of the government have in recent months pointed to cases of online harassment, arrests, and alleged disappearances of individuals perceived to be dissenting voices, though authorities have consistently denied wrongdoing.
The administration of William Ruto has previously maintained that it upholds constitutional freedoms, including freedom of expression and media independence.
Link to ‘Niko Kadi’ Movement
What began as a social media appeal targeting unregistered voters in Nairobi’s Kasarani area quickly evolved into a nationwide campaign, leveraging digital platforms and grassroots networks to promote civic participation.
According to Ademba, the initiative is strictly non-partisan and citizen-driven, with a focus on empowering young people through awareness and engagement.
He has previously cautioned political actors against attempting to co-opt the movement, insisting on its independence.
IEBC Registration Drive Looms
The drive is expected to target millions of eligible voters, particularly young people, many of whom have been mobilised through campaigns such as “Niko Kadi.”
As questions linger over Ademba’s claims, attention is likely to shift toward both the response from authorities and the role of digital platforms in regulating content and user activity.
