Activist Bob Njagi Arrested Ahead of June 25 Gen Z Memorial Protests
Njagi, a prominent member of the Linda Mwananchi movement, was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon over allegations of incitement linked to the planned demonstrations scheduled for Thursday, June 25.
Kajiado County Police Commander Alex Shikondi confirmed the arrest, stating that investigators had reviewed the video and determined that the remarks made could potentially incite unrest and destruction of property.
“The suspect was arrested after a video circulating on social media was reviewed and found to contain statements that could incite members of the public ahead of the planned demonstrations,” Shikondi said.

The police commander added that authorities were particularly concerned that the remarks could encourage unrest in Kitengela and surrounding areas, where security agencies have heightened surveillance and deployment ahead of the demonstrations.
Security Agencies Tighten Preparations
Police confirmed that Njagi is currently being held at a police station within Kajiado County, although officials declined to disclose the exact location, citing security considerations.
The arrest comes amid intensified preparations by security agencies ahead of the June 25 memorial marches, which are expected to attract thousands of participants across various towns and cities.
Authorities have repeatedly warned against acts of violence, looting, vandalism, and destruction of property during the commemorations.
“We will not tolerate any destruction of property or acts that threaten public safety. Those who wish to commemorate the day should do so peacefully and within the law,” a senior security official said during recent briefings.
Njagi’s Activism and Public Profile
Njagi is widely known within Kenya’s civil society circles and gained national prominence during the anti-Finance Bill protests that swept across the country in 2024.
The activist later returned to the headlines after being arrested in Uganda alongside fellow activist Nicholas Oyoo. The pair were accused of participating in activities linked to opposition politics during Uganda’s 2025 election season, allegations that attracted attention from regional human rights organizations.
Over the years, Njagi has remained a vocal advocate for social justice, governance reforms, and youth participation in democratic processes.
Mixed Reactions Ahead of Memorial Demonstrations
The planned June 25 memorial protests continue to generate mixed reactions across the country.

However, critics argue that repeated street protests risk disrupting businesses, transportation, and economic activities.
On Wednesday afternoon, hundreds of residents in Kisumu staged counter-demonstrations opposing the planned protests.
Participants carried banners urging Kenyans to avoid street demonstrations and instead focus on economic development and national unity. Some groups also used the occasion to advocate for broader political reforms, including calls for a rotational presidency that would allow different regions an opportunity to lead the country.
National Attention on June 25 Anniversary
The June 25 anniversary has become one of the most closely watched dates on Kenya’s political calendar following the unprecedented Gen Z-led protests that reshaped national political discourse.
The arrest of Bob Njagi has added another layer of significance to an already sensitive moment, highlighting the ongoing tension between security concerns and the constitutional rights of citizens to assemble, express their views, and participate in public affairs.

With authorities promising heightened security and organizers insisting on peaceful demonstrations, all eyes will be on how Kenya navigates this pivotal anniversary.
