DCI Arrests Three for Inciting Chaos in June 25 Protests
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three suspects accused of masterminding chaos during the June 25 protests.
In a high-stakes operation conducted on Friday, June 27, detectives intercepted the suspects on a Mombasa-bound bus. The arrest follows days of forensic tracking and digital surveillance.
“In an intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday, June 27, DCI detectives intercepted and arrested three ill-reputed campaigners,“
“who, through coordinated channels and social media posts, incited goons to violence, massive theft, and destruction of property,”
“thus propagating a narrative that undermined national stability and the constitutionally protected right to peaceably assemble and picket,”
reads part of the official statement.
Coastal Hideout Foiled
The suspects had reportedly planned to flee and hide in the Coastal region. However, detectives cornered them near the Konza City section before they could escape.

DCI said their digital footprints and online activity helped trace them. According to investigators, the suspects played a major role in steering online incitement, which later erupted into real-world destruction.
Peaceful Protest Hijacked
The DCI condemned the group for turning a peaceful demonstration into a wave of destruction.
“The DCI condemns the actions of the three mobilizers,”
“which reflected deliberate intention to cause violence that saw businesses looted and persons injured,”
“a subversive action that contradicts the logic and intentions of the general public to exercise a protected right,”
the statement said.

Charges to Follow
Authorities revealed the suspects will be arraigned on Monday. Investigators hinted at possible charges such as:
- Malicious damage to property
- Arson
- Theft
- Incitement to violence
- Disobedience of the law
This latest arrest comes just hours after 24 other suspects were taken into custody. They are linked to the burning of Kikuyu Law Courts, Sub-County offices, and other government buildings during the protests.
National Appeal for Peace
DCI urged citizens to remain peaceful and resist manipulation. They emphasized that freedom of assembly must not be hijacked by agents of destruction.

“Peaceful protests are protected by law,”
“but calculated acts of violence and destruction will be met with the full force of the law,”
the DCI warned.
