Female Police Officer Brutally Beaten by Protesters in Nairobi: “They Shouted, Let’s Kill Her!”

Nairobi was thrown into chaos on Wednesday, June 25, as a female police officer was viciously attacked by protesters in the CBD. Emily Kinya, a mother of three, is now nursing serious injuries and emotional scars from the ordeal.

The incident occurred on Muindi Mbingu Street. Emily and her colleagues were overwhelmed by a wave of angry protesters. Forced to retreat, she tripped and fell. That moment changed her life.

“The protesters overwhelmed us,”
“So as we were withdrawing, I hit my foot on the ground and fell.”
“I hit my foot on the ground because I was hit from behind,” Emily painfully recalled.

Mob Descends With Blunt Objects

Captured on video, the footage shows Emily lying helplessly on the ground. A group of youthful protesters hurl blunt objects at her. Some shout death threats. The situation grows more intense by the second.

“Luckily, there are those who shielded me,”
“But there are those from behind who hit me and shouted, ‘let’s kill her, they have killed one of us,’” she added, her voice trembling.

Emily sustained critical injuries to the head and limbs. She was rushed to hospital, where she remains under treatment. The scars—both physical and psychological—may take much longer to heal.

Her children, too, are suffering. One of them has not spoken since watching the viral clip of their mother’s attack.

“We Are Humans Too,” Says Emily from Hospital Bed

The 2013 police service recruit didn’t just lose her strength that day. She also lost her mobile phone and official police gear in the chaos. Her voice, though shaky, carries a powerful message.

“We are humans as well,”
“I think our lives matter too.”
“My foot where I was hit got a soft tissue injury. I suffered a deep cut on the head,” she revealed.

Violence Spreads Beyond Nairobi

In Embu, a similar story unfolded. Another police officer, this time male, was cornered and attacked by protesters on the Embu-Nairobi Highway. He, too, was injured.

These incidents are a stark reminder of the growing tensions in the country—and the danger both citizens and officers now face.
