IG Kanja Fulfills Ruto’s Directive, Establishes Three New Police Stations in Nairobi and Turkana

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has officially announced the establishment of three new police stations in response to rising insecurity.

In a Kenya Gazette notice dated June 5, Kanja confirmed the move, stating:

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 40(1) of the National Police Service Act, the Inspector-General designates establishments… to be Police Stations or Posts for the purposes of this Act.”

Nairobi Gets Long-Awaited Police Station

In Nairobi County, the new Utalii Police Station will serve the Ruaraka sub-county—a region previously rocked by rising crime and insecurity.

The announcement comes after President William Ruto’s directive during a tense public address in Ruaraka on March 11.

“Because of the insecurity in this area, I have directed the Inspector General of Police to ensure that this police station is gazetted by Friday,” Ruto stated.

He added firmly:

“Police officers should be immediately deployed here to protect property and life. That will help the people of Ruaraka to go about their business without distraction.”

Turkana Sees Major Security Upgrade

Moving north to Turkana County, two new posts will boost safety in the Turkana West sub-county.

These are the Oropoi Police Station and the Loreng Police Post.

Local leaders and residents have long pleaded for tighter security due to frequent banditry and cattle rustling in the region.

Gov’t Delivers on Security Promises

The new police posts reflect a larger government initiative to combat rising crime and rebuild trust in law enforcement.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has also vowed to create new administrative and police posts to curb lawlessness, especially in marginalized areas.

This announcement signals the government’s commitment to keeping its promises and protecting citizens.

Citizens React With Relief

Residents from both regions welcomed the news with emotion and hope.

“We have suffered for too long. This will restore peace in our homes,” said a Turkana West mother.

“Ruaraka has waited for this moment. We now feel heard and safer,” a Nairobi boda boda rider shared.
