Emergency Teams Act Fast
According to Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff, emergency response units rushed to the scene within minutes.
“This evening, a fire broke out at the MOWASSCO offices in Mombasa’s Central Business District,” the governor announced on his official X account. “Thanks to the swift response of our County Emergency Teams, backed by crucial support from the Kenya Navy and Kenya Ports Authority, the fire has been fully contained,” he said.
Despite the intensity of the fire, no casualties were reported. Governor Abdulswamad confirmed the good news.
“We are grateful that there were no casualties,” he stated.
He assured Mombasa residents that public services would continue without interruption.
“All critical data is securely backed up on cloud-based systems. This unfortunate incident will not disrupt the delivery of services,” the governor emphasized.
“The fire was contained by a multi-agency team comprising the County and KPA fire brigades, Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Police,” the statement read. “No casualties reported. Damage assessment underway.”

At the moment, authorities have not established the cause of the fire. Additionally, the value of damaged property remains unknown. However, an investigation has already begun.
