Eldoret Muslim Leaders Warn Govt Against Ignoring Youths Over ‘Ruto Must Go’ Slogan

A section of Uasin Gishu Muslim clerics has raised concerns over the growing popularity of the ‘Ruto must go’ slogan among Kenyan youths. The leaders, speaking during Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations at Masjid Nuur mosque in Eldoret on Monday, March 31, urged the government to address the frustrations fueling the movement.

Led by the North Rift Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the clerics emphasized the need for immediate action.

“We want to ask the government to ensure that the youths are listened to and their grievances addressed,” Bini stated.

The religious leaders stressed that dismissing the concerns raised by the youth would only escalate tensions. They urged the government to listen rather than react with force or intimidation.

Bini proposed a national approach to addressing the unrest. “When we scold and victimize our youths instead of listening to them, we are adding more injuries,” he cautioned.

Calls for a National Task Force

The CIPK chairman urged the National Assembly and the Senate to form a task force to handle grievances before the slogan gains uncontrollable momentum. He suggested that the commission include religious leaders, elected officials, and respected elders.

“We should look at ways to calm the storm since the constitution allows them to air their dissatisfaction,” Bini emphasized.

Government Response and Security Warnings

The rise of the ‘Ruto must go’ slogan has drawn reactions from top government officials. Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Charles Kahariri and National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Noordin Haji recently issued warnings against its use.

However, some political leaders have criticized their statements, arguing that military and intelligence officials should remain apolitical.

A Nation at a Crossroads

The clerics believe the youth’s outcry reflects deeper issues that the government must address. High unemployment, economic struggles, and political dissatisfaction are among the driving factors.

As the slogan continues to spread, religious leaders warn that ignoring it could lead to widespread unrest. The government now faces a choice: crackdown or dialogue.

“The youth are the future. If we fail to listen, we fail our nation,” Bini concluded.
