Governor Natembeya’s Communications Officer Accused of Assaulting Kitale Nurse
Kitale – A communications officer in Governor George Natembeya’s office faces serious allegations of assaulting a nurse at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital (WKTRH). The shocking incident has sparked outrage among medical professionals in Trans Nzoia County, with nurses threatening to go on strike.
What Led to the Attack?
According to Jackson Mulinge, the assaulted nurse, trouble began when a group arrived at the hospital with a patient. They allegedly demanded direct admission to the amenity ward without following standard procedures. Mulinge insisted on protocol, angering the officer, who then attacked him.
“A team accompanying the patient insisted that he be admitted immediately because of their influence. When I stood my ground, he hit me on my head. That is why my head is bandaged,” Mulinge said on Sunday, March 30.
Mulinge has since reported the incident at Kitale Police Station. He is demanding justice and the immediate arrest of the suspect and his accomplices.
Nurses Threaten to Strike
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Trans Nzoia branch has strongly condemned the attack. Executive Secretary Edward Cheruiyot warned that all nurses in the county will down their tools beginning Tuesday, April 2, if no action is taken.
“We are calling on all health workers in this county to join us on Tuesday and stand in solidarity against such heinous acts,” said Cheruiyot.

Trans Nzoia KNUN Chairperson Cyprian Nyakundi called on Governor Natembeya’s administration to enhance security at the hospital.
“We know this is a tactic to intimidate us so that we stop pushing for the implementation of agreements we reached with the county. We will only return to work when our security is assured,” Nyakundi stated.
Human Rights Activists Join the Fight
Juma Kiboi, the executive officer of the Socio-Economic Development and Rights Alliance (SEDRA), vowed to take the fight further if justice is not served.
“If no action is taken, we will petition the Senate. We will not rest until justice is served for the assaulted nurse and the entire nursing fraternity,” Kiboi declared.
Accused Official Dismisses Claims
“I am a law-abiding citizen. I did not assault the nurse. When I visited my colleague, I found the nurse busy on his phone listening to music instead of attending to patients,” the officer claimed.
As tensions rise, all eyes are on the county government to see if action will be taken against the accused. Meanwhile, Trans Nzoia residents fear a healthcare crisis if nurses make good on their strike threat.Kitale – A communications officer in Governor George Natembeya’s office faces serious allegations of assaulting a nurse at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital (WKTRH).
