Peter Salasya Blames Raila Odinga After Committee Removal, Vows Political Showdown

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has launched a scathing attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga after his removal from the Departmental Committee on Regional Development. Salasya claimed his removal was the result of a secret deal between Raila and President William Ruto.

The outspoken lawmaker was replaced by Rongo MP Paul Abuor, a move that angered him. In a video statement on Thursday, March 6, Salasya expressed his frustration, accusing Raila of betrayal and political scheming.

“Raila Has Sealed a Deal with Ruto”

Salasya did not hold back, directly blaming Raila for influencing Parliament’s decisions.

“I was removed from the Committee on Regional Integration and placed in the Committee on Broadcasting and Library Services. I was also assigned to the Committee on Welfare, dealing with cafeteria food. This clearly shows Raila is consulting for selfish reasons. He has already sealed the deal with Ruto,” he alleged.

He further claimed that Raila’s actions proved Parliament was not independent. “What Raila tells people is a lie. This proves Parliament is under his and Ruto’s control. Let them take all the committees! I have left them to their plans. I have been removed, and they have brought in their own people. But that does not bother me, as long as I stand with the people,” Salasya stated.

Defiance and Political Strategy

Despite the setback, Salasya vowed to continue his development agenda in Mumias East. He emphasized that his removal would not affect his service delivery.

“It will not stop me from delivering. With CDF, I can still develop my constituency. If they think removing me will stop my progress, they are mistaken. I am a good planner,” he asserted.

In a bold declaration, Salasya promised to weaken ODM’s influence in Western Kenya.

“We are going to finish ODM in Kakamega and Western. I am serious about it, and I don’t care. After all, we are with the people,” he warned.

Salasya Calls Out Raila’s Parliamentary Failures

Salasya also accused Raila of failing Parliament. He argued that the ODM leader’s encouragement of party defections had weakened the oversight role of legislators.

Speaking in Kimilili, he said, “Raila tells MPs to hold the government accountable, yet he weakens Parliament by pushing ODM members to join Ruto’s side. MPs must scrutinize government proposals, not blindly approve them.”

Clashing with Ruto

Salasya is no stranger to controversy. On January 21, during Ruto’s tour of Western Kenya, he confronted the president, accusing him of failing to fulfill campaign promises.

“This thing called SHA is not working, Your Excellency. But the cartels around you won’t tell you that. They are failing you, Mr. President. You should hire me as your advisor because these people are not helping you,” he said.

In response, Ruto jokingly threatened to “discipline” Salasya to make him a better leader.
