President Ruto’s Cabinet Reshuffle: Uhuru Allies Return Amid Heated Reactions

President William Ruto’s Cabinet reshuffle has triggered strong responses across the country. The reintroduction of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies has created both excitement and criticism.

Uhuru Allies Take Center Stage

On December 19, Ruto announced key appointments. Mutahi Kagwe, the former Health Cabinet Secretary, became the new Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary. Kagwe replaces Andrew Karanja, who briefly managed the docket after Mithika Linturi’s exit.

William Kabogo, the former Kiambu Governor, was also named Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and Digital Economy. Kabogo succeeds Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, now Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana.

Former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui returned as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade, Industry, and Investment. Kinyanjui replaces Salim Mvurya, who moved to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Mixed Political Reactions Follow Appointments

Ruto’s reshuffle drew varied opinions from political leaders.

Moses Kuria, State House Economic Advisor, expressed gratitude. “Thank you, Mr. President. You are a good man. Thank you for Kindiki, Kagwe, Kabogo, and Kinyanjui—the 4K Club of Mt. Kenya,” he remarked.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi sharply criticized the move. He stated, “Those who insulted Raila for his ministers in Ruto’s government should now greet Uhuru with respect.”

Those who have hurled insults and unprintable words to #Raila because of his four ministers to the #Ruto government, am waiting for you "Kusalimia" #Uhuru pia in the same vein because of his lieutenants to ruto government or else I declare you enemies of the state !

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai noted, “Former President Uhuru has brought his A-team to push opposition politicians back where they belong.”

Former President Uhuru has brought his A-team to push the “perennial opposition politicians” back to the opposition.

Baba is idealistic and wanted face of Kenya. Baba wants Kenya as he has imagined it. It exists in an ideal world.

Everyone else is selfishly tribal.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika offered a contrasting view, congratulating Kinyanjui. “Congratulations to my predecessor on your nomination as Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry,” she said.

Ruto Pushes for National Collaboration

The reshuffle follows a recent meeting between Ruto and Uhuru at Ichaweri. Ruto explained they discussed ways to unify efforts for the national good.

“I aim for a country where everyone has a stake,” Ruto stated during the Pastoralists Leadership Summit. He emphasized his commitment to building bridges for Kenya’s progress.
