Huduma Kenya Denies Mass Recruitment Claims, Warns Public Over Fake Appointment Letters
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 24, the government service provider said it had taken note of an online scheme purporting to recruit Kenyans for employment at Huduma centres across the country. Fraudsters have allegedly been issuing fake appointment letters, purportedly signed by the Director General, promising immediate deployment to various outlets nationwide.
“Huduma Kenya wishes to alert wananchi that a fraudulent appointment letter, which has been circulating online, is not authentic and should be disregarded,” the agency stated. “All official Huduma Kenya communications are issued only through our verified channels, including our official website, Huduma Contact and Tele-Counselling Centre 1919, and verified social media accounts.”
Warning to the Public
Huduma Kenya urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and verify any job-related information through its official platforms. The agency further advised members of the public to report individuals claiming to be recruiting on behalf of the government.

“Public vigilance is critical. We urge Kenyans to confirm with our verified platforms in case of interest in any job openings and report any suspicious individuals or groups,” the statement added.
Document Collection Drive
Alongside the warning, Huduma Kenya reiterated its call for Kenyans to collect key documents that have already been processed and are awaiting collection. These include national identity cards, birth certificates, and smart driving licences.
According to the agency, as of early February, more than 40,615 birth certificates, 132,083 identity cards, and 88,963 smart driving licences were ready for collection.
“We continue to urge Kenyans to collect their processed documents from Huduma centres to avoid unnecessary delays and congestion,” Huduma Kenya noted.
Complaints Over Delays
In response, Huduma Kenya acknowledged that persistent system hitches on the National ID processing platform had negatively impacted service delivery.

“The system has been experiencing on-and-off technical issues, which have affected our operational mandates. We are working to resolve these challenges to ensure timely service delivery,” the agency explained.
Broader Context
Huduma Kenya, established to streamline access to government services, operates centres across the country offering services such as ID registration, birth and death certificates, driving licences, and business permits. The agency has faced challenges in recent years, including system downtimes and backlogs in document processing.
Analysts note that the circulation of fake appointment letters highlights the vulnerability of job seekers in Kenya, where unemployment remains high. Fraudsters often exploit desperation by issuing false promises of government jobs, underscoring the need for stronger public awareness campaigns.

Conclusion
Huduma Kenya’s denial of mass recruitment claims and warning against fraudulent appointment letters underscores the importance of vigilance in safeguarding citizens from scams. While the agency continues to address system hitches and document backlogs, it has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and service delivery through verified channels.
