Chaos in Kasipul: Several Injured as Goons Disrupt Boyd Were’s Campaign Rally

Tension gripped Kasipul on Thursday afternoon after a peaceful campaign rally turned violent. ODM parliamentary candidate Boyd Were’s event in Opondo, Central Kasipul, was stormed by suspected goons, leaving several people injured and property destroyed.

Boyd Were, son of the late Ong’ondo Were, confirmed the attack. He claimed the chaos began moments after his rally had started.

“Within minutes, they stormed the venue, alighted from their vehicles, and directed unprovoked attacks toward us,” Boyd said. “Sadly, gunshots were heard, disrupting the peace that had initially prevailed.”

The attackers didn’t stop in Opondo. According to Boyd, they moved to Nyalenda, where he had planned to meet more voters. There, they destroyed tents, chairs, and other campaign materials.

“They burnt two motorcycles. People ran for their lives,” Boyd recounted.

The violence left a trail of destruction and fear among residents.

“Jim was attacked by individuals well known to him,” Boyd claimed. “This is no longer politics. It’s criminal.”

The incident has sparked outrage among ODM supporters and residents alike.

“You Cannot Kill My People” — Aroko Fires Back With Counterclaims

However, Boyd’s main rival, Philip Aroko, offered a different version of events. He accused Boyd’s security team of starting the violence.

“This nonsense of killing constituents must stop in this by-election,” Aroko said. “You cannot kill my people and get away with it.”

Aroko claimed one resident died during the chaos, while several others were critically injured. He blamed Boyd’s team for the unrest.

“We Must Uphold Peace” — Leaders Urged to Calm Tensions

As the by-election nears, local leaders are under pressure to ensure peace. Residents are calling for calm and accountability from all candidates.

“We want leaders who unite, not divide,” said a concerned voter. “This violence must end before it gets worse.”

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

“A Dark Day for Democracy” — Voters Demand Justice

The attack has raised serious concerns about the safety of political gatherings. Many fear the violence could escalate if not addressed swiftly.
