Ruto Revokes Njagagua’s Appointment as Consolidated Bank Chair Amid Mbeere North Political Shift

In a dramatic political shake-up, President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Bank of Kenya. The decision, announced through a gazette notice dated October 3, comes just weeks before the Mbeere North by-elections.

“I Revoke the Appointment”—Ruto’s Directive Lands Swiftly

President Ruto made the revocation official, citing legal provisions under the State Corporations Act and the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.

“I, William Samoei Ruto, revoke the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua,” the notice read. “This takes effect immediately,” it added.

Njagagua had served in the role for nearly three years, having been appointed on February 10, 2023, after losing the Mbeere North MP seat to Geoffrey Ruku.

“He Will Head Our Campaign”—Kindiki Praises Njagagua’s Loyalty

Just a month ago, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki unveiled Njagagua as the head of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretariat for the upcoming by-election.

“We are delighted all aspirants endorsed one candidate,” Kindiki said. “This shows unity and democratic strength,” he added.

Njagagua stepped down in favor of Leonard Muriuki, also known as Leo, earning praise for his sacrifice.

“We are grateful to Njagagua for his selflessness,” Kindiki stated. “He will coordinate our campaign efforts across the constituency,” he confirmed.

“New Faces at the Helm”—Mbadi Reshuffles Bank Board

Meanwhile, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi announced new appointments to the Consolidated Bank board. Kennedy Ntabo Otiso, Edward Kiplimo Bittok, and George Mokua will now serve as directors.

“The three will serve for a period of three years,” Mbadi stated. “Their appointments take effect from October 3, 2025,” he added.

Mbadi also revoked the appointments of Kenneth Gatheru Gatiithi, Harun Kipkemei Mosop, and Jedidah Karwitha Mwiti.

“Politics and Power Collide”—Public Reacts to Sudden Changes

The revocation has sparked mixed reactions, with many linking it to Njagagua’s renewed political ambitions.

“This is clearly political,” said one voter in Mbeere North. “He chose politics over position,” another commented.

As campaigns heat up, the move signals a deeper alignment between political loyalty and public appointments.
