“We sincerely regret to inform you that Jubilee is unable to issue a nomination certificate,” the letter read. “This decision arises from a United Opposition resolution,” it added.
The coalition, led by Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua, agreed to field a single candidate under the Democratic Party banner.
“I Hosted Mbao”—Kioni Previously Met the Aspirant
Just weeks earlier, Kioni had met Mbao and his delegation, sparking hope among supporters.
“Today I hosted a delegation from Mbeere North led by Hon. Jacob Ireri,” Kioni posted on August 7.
“The National Executive Council has not issued nomination papers,” Njoroge stated. “We will support the united opposition’s choice,” she added.

“Mbao Meets Ruku”—Signs Point to UDA Shift
Following the rejection, Mbao reportedly met outgoing MP Ruku, a UDA ally with strong influence in the region. The meeting has fueled speculation that Mbao may now back UDA’s candidate, Muthende.
“Backing Muthende would give UDA a major boost,” a local analyst noted. “Mbao’s influence among locals is significant,” he added.
This shift could reshape the race, leaving three main contenders: Muthende (UDA), Newton Karish (Democratic Party), and Duncan Mbui (Chama Cha Kazi).
