‘Enough Is Enough’: Governor Erick Mutai Warns Speaker and Defiant MCAs After Senate Acquittal
The dramatic vote ended with 26 senators rejecting the motion. Only 16 supported it, while one abstained.
The ruling spared Mutai and immediately set off a fiery response from the embattled county boss.
Governor Hits Back
Hours after his acquittal, Mutai addressed supporters in an emotional speech. He went straight for his critics.
“I want to say that the Speaker of Kericho County has taken us round in circles, and enough is enough,” Mutai declared.

Warning to Speaker and MCAs
Mutai claimed that the Speaker had already removed pro-governor MCAs from key committees. He warned that new plans were underway to de-whip others.
“Let them stop this thing. I hear that they are threatening that next week they are going to remove some MCAs,” he said.
“Maybe the last time, after the impeachment, I kept quiet. But this time, I’m watching.”
His message was clear: such moves would not go unchallenged.
A Battle for 2027?
The governor did not stop there. He suggested that the impeachment drama was being fueled by fear of the next election.
“What we have in Kericho County is a struggle, a power struggle for those politicians who feel they cannot face the governor in 2027,” he warned.
“When they imagine meeting Mutai at the ballot box, they shudder. These games are not for the people of Kericho. It is their own interest.”

Call for Unity
Despite his anger, Mutai extended an olive branch. He asked all leaders to put Kericho first.
“I’m willing to work with all of them, but they must begin to work with respect,” he said.
“Justice must come with clean hands. We want to work together as one team, but respect must be upheld.”
The governor thanked God, his family, his legal team, and the Senate for standing by him.
