Gachagua Refuses to Record Statement in Kenya Over Ruto–Al-Shabaab Claims
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly rejected an order to record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen had directed him to explain his remarks linking President William Ruto to Al-Shabaab.
Speaking during his US visit, Gachagua dismissed the directive.
“I am not talking ill of my country, just speaking the truth,” he said.
He insisted the matter now rests with the US Senate, not Kenyan authorities.
“Kenya is a beautiful country with good people, but with poor leadership,” he added.

No Cooperation with Kenyan Authorities
Gachagua said he would not work with the Kenyan government on this matter.
“We cannot assist in any investigations because the Kenyan government has not initiated any investigations against William Ruto,” he stated.
He questioned why local agencies wanted his cooperation while ignoring the core allegations.
Call for Targeted Sanctions
While abroad, Gachagua urged the US Senate to avoid punishing the entire nation.
“Do not impose sanctions on Kenya as a whole,” he said.
Instead, he asked them to target President Ruto over alleged links to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Al-Shabaab, and questionable trade ties with China.
Murkomen Hits Back
CS Murkomen, speaking during the Keiyo South Economic Empowerment Program, blasted the former DP.
“He thinks that he is going to parade issues of terrorism in America to get votes,” Murkomen declared.
He accused Gachagua of exploiting sensitive security matters for political gain among Kenyans abroad.
Murkomen stressed that Gachagua must face investigators.

“As soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” he warned.
Public Reactions Split
The remarks have stirred fierce debate.
Some leaders accuse Gachagua of damaging Kenya’s image internationally.
Others defend him as a bold whistleblower confronting poor governance.
The tension between the two camps mirrors the nation’s deep political divisions.
Unresolved Tensions
For now, Gachagua remains firm in his stance.
He continues to speak from the US, ignoring the DCI summons.
Meanwhile, Murkomen insists the former DP must answer for his words upon returning home.
With accusations of terrorism links, political rivalry, and international attention, the standoff shows no sign of cooling.
