Woman Arrested While Attempting to Swallow Ksh 4M Worth of Cocaine Pellets at JKIA
A dramatic scene unfolded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday, June 13, 2025, when detectives arrested a 26-year-old woman attempting to smuggle cocaine by swallowing drug pellets.
The suspect, ready to board an outbound flight, was intercepted by alert anti-narcotics officers at around 10am. Her nervous behavior during a routine screening immediately caught the officers’ attention.
“The woman, whose confidence was clearly larger than her carry-on luggage, was intercepted by hawk-eyed detectives,” read a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Officers grew suspicious and subjected her to a thorough physical search. They quickly concluded she might have concealed illegal substances inside her body cavity. She was placed under medical observation immediately.

Cocaine Pellets Excreted Under Watch
Later that day, while under medical watch, the suspect requested to use the washroom. What followed stunned officers. She excreted two cocaine-filled pellets.
By Saturday, June 14, six more were recovered, bringing the total to eight pellets. The cocaine weighed approximately 626.65 grams.
“The narcotics, based on current market value, are worth nearly Ksh4.39 million,” the DCI confirmed.
Legal Process Underway
The case highlights the bold tactics traffickers are now using—and the vigilance of Kenya’s security systems.
“Her uneasy demeanour during screening set off alarm bells,” said a senior airport officer.
“These traffickers will go to deadly extremes, but our teams are more prepared than ever.”
U.S. Citizen Caught in Similar Incident
In a separate but equally disturbing case, detectives earlier this year arrested an American citizen attempting to traffic cocaine from Alabama to Saudi Arabia.

The man, who had also ingested several drug pellets, was caught after a doctor at a Nairobi hospital alerted the DCI.
“Three pellets were extracted from the suspect’s rectum during an endoscopy,” investigators revealed.
The cocaine weighed 57.98 grams. Detectives documented the case and continue to monitor similar trafficking trends.

War on Drugs Intensifies at Kenyan Borders
These back-to-back arrests paint a clear picture: Kenyan authorities are tightening the noose on drug smuggling.
“We’re watching every route, every move,” said a JKIA senior anti-narcotics officer.
“If you try to sneak in drugs, we will catch you.”ALSO READ:
