UDA Dismisses Viral Notice Claiming ICT Director Was Fired
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has dismissed as fake a viral notice circulating on social media alleging that the party had sacked its ICT Director, Elijah Sawe, terming the publication as misleading and unauthorised.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the ruling party clarified that the notice did not originate from its recognised communication channels and urged the public to treat the document as false.
“The notice circulating online alleging the dismissal of our ICT Director is fake and did not originate from the official communication channels of the United Democratic Alliance,” the party stated.

UDA further cautioned members of the public against relying on unverified sources of information, especially at a time when political activities across the country are intensifying.
“We urge our members and the public to disregard the document and to verify any information through our verified social media pages and official statements,” the statement added.
The fake poster, which has been widely shared across various social media platforms, bears the party’s official logo, colours and branding elements, giving it the appearance of a legitimate public notice. The document claims that Sawe had been relieved of his duties over alleged financial irregularities and unauthorised data disclosure.
The notice mimics the format typically used in official party communications. It includes a portrait photograph, party insignia and a disclaimer suggesting that the named individual is no longer authorised to transact or conduct business on behalf of the party.

Part of the viral message reads: “This is to inform the public that the individual named above has been relieved by the UDA party due to alleged financial irregularities and unauthorised data disclosure.”
It continues: “Consequently, the individual is not permitted to conduct any party-related business or act on behalf of the party in any capacity. The party shall not be liable for any transactions, commitments or representations made by the individual.”
Despite the detailed presentation, UDA officials pointed out inconsistencies that cast doubt on the authenticity of the notice. Notably, the document is unsigned and does not follow the party’s established communication protocol.
Typically, official UDA statements and notices are signed by the Secretary General, Hassan Omar, and clearly indicate the date of issuance. The viral poster lacks both a signature and a formal reference number, elements that are standard in the party’s official releases.
Political analysts note that the circulation of such misleading content underscores the growing challenge of misinformation in Kenya’s digital political space. With political parties engaging in internal reorganisations and grassroots elections, the environment remains highly charged.
The incident comes at a time when several political parties are undergoing significant leadership changes and restructuring. The Azimio coalition recently announced a reshuffle in its leadership, appointing Kalonzo Musyoka as coalition leader and replacing Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as Secretary General.
Meanwhile, UDA has been conducting grassroots elections across various counties as it seeks to strengthen its structures nationwide. The exercise is part of the party’s broader strategy to consolidate support and streamline leadership ahead of future political contests.

Observers say the timing of the fake notice may have been intended to sow confusion within party ranks or undermine public confidence in its leadership. However, UDA maintains that its internal structures remain intact and operational.
As misinformation continues to pose risks in the digital age, political parties and institutions are increasingly urging Kenyans to verify information before sharing it online. Authorities have previously warned that the creation and distribution of false documents may attract legal consequences under cybercrime and information laws.
