Tension in Tinderet: Police Fire Teargas at Protesters Demanding Answers Over Missing MP Aspirant Shadrack Maritim
A cloud of fear and frustration hangs over Tinderet Constituency as residents continue to demand answers over the mysterious disappearance of MP aspirant Shadrack Maritim. On Monday, November 4, police officers fired teargas to disperse angry protesters in Maraba, escalating tensions in the already distressed community.
“He Went for a Run and Never Returned” — Family Pleads for Help
According to a missing person poster circulated by Maritim’s family, the politician vanished on Monday, October 27, around 6 a.m. He had gone for his usual morning run in Cheplaskei, Uasin Gishu County, near Eldoret City.

“He went for his routine morning run and never returned. We are extremely worried. Please help us find him,” the family pleaded.
“We Want Answers” — Protesters Clash With Police
Carrying twigs, banners, and blowing vuvuzelas, residents flooded the streets of Maraba. They burned bonfires and squatted on the ground to evade police teargas.
“We just want to know where Captain is. Why are we being silenced?” shouted one protester.
Despite the chaos, the crowd remained determined to demand accountability from authorities.
“This Is Not the First Protest” — Supporters Keep Pressure On
This was not the first demonstration. Supporters had earlier gathered on Saturday, November 1, at Maraba trading centre. Their message remained clear: they want Maritim found.
“We will not stop until we get answers. Captain must be found,” said a youth leader.
The protests reflect growing public concern and distrust in the pace of investigations.
“We Met Police for Updates” — Leaders Join Search Efforts

“Following the unfortunate disappearance of Shadrack Maritim (Captain) since Monday, today, together with my fellow leaders and family members, we visited Langas Police Station to follow up with the authorities on the progress of investigations,” Melly said.
Their visit came just hours before the Maraba protest erupted.
“Did He Fake It?” — Political Rivals Stir Controversy
“We must consider all possibilities. This could be political theatrics,” said one anonymous rival.
However, such claims have angered supporters, who insist the matter is serious and deserves urgent attention.
“We Need Truth, Not Teargas” — Community Demands Justice
As the search continues, residents are calling for transparency and compassion. They urge authorities to prioritize Maritim’s case and stop using force against peaceful demonstrators.
“We need truth, not teargas. Captain is one of us,” said a local elder.
The community remains united in grief, hope, and determination.
