Senator Hezena Cancels Wedding, Returns Dowry After Shocking Background Check
In October 2024, the charismatic Samburu leader had joyfully announced her engagement.
She even praised her fiancé online, calling him “a fine top brain” and expressing deep affection for him.
However, that joy was short-lived.
“The Process Was Thoroughly Cancelled”
On Friday, May 16, Lemaletian broke her silence.
She addressed the issue head-on in a strong, clear statement:
“Allegations that I was married are false and unfounded,” she declared.
“I shall also not be married to that person whatsoever.”
According to Samburu traditions, a marriage can only proceed after elders conduct a deep cultural background check on the groom.
And so they did—thoroughly.
“The due procedure of the Samburu culture is that a background check must be conducted before the marriage. And so it was, and THOROUGHLY,” she emphasized.
The findings shocked the elders.
They advised Lemaletian to immediately cancel the wedding and return the dowry.
Dowry Reversed, Engagement Over
“The elders of my family, therefore, halted the whole process after the background check,” Lemaletian confirmed.
“They refused to accept dowry from the person, and as such, the whole process was immediately cancelled as of January 2025.”
The man had earlier offered a dowry of KSh 100,000 during initial talks. It has since been returned in full.
Though heartbroken, Lemaletian thanked her elders for standing firm.
She compared their wisdom and strength to that of her late father:
“Their involvement was like that of a father. I know my dad would be proud,” she wrote.
“Let My Family Heal”
Lemaletian, known for her grace and calm, pleaded for privacy and respect.
“I request the public to allow my family and I some space to move forward,” she appealed.
She also sent a strong warning to anyone spreading false information:
“Any further attempts to slander my name will be handled legally,” she cautioned.
Despite enduring media attacks and online rumors, she chose silence—until now.
