Taking to X, Cherargei expressed his sentiments passionately. “We must pray for Raila to win the AUC chairperson seat. Let’s show patriotism and support him wholeheartedly,” he stated.
“Ruto shall deliver the candidacy of H.E Raila on the African Union (AUC) chairperson seat. As Kenya, we need to resoundingly pray for Raila to win the AUC Seat. For once, let’s be patriotic to our country by supporting him. In the evening, Raila shall spell out the pan-Africanism agenda from Ethiopia,” he said.

Despite Cherargei’s call, Raila’s bid has received mixed responses. Some Kenyans feel betrayed by his recent cooperation with Ruto. They argue that Raila abandoned the fight for better governance during the July truce with Ruto.
These critics now support Djibouti’s candidate, Mahamoud Youssouf, as an alternative. However, their choice seems driven more by emotions than Youssouf’s qualifications or vision for Africa.
The High-Stakes Vote
The Kenyan government has thrown its full support behind Raila’s bid. The AU Executive Council has agreed that the next AUC chairperson will come from East Africa.
Raila faces competition from Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato. Meanwhile, Somalia, Mauritius, and Seychelles have withdrawn their candidates to endorse Raila. To win, Raila needs either a consensus or a two-thirds majority vote from AU member states.

A Moment of National Pride
The current AUC chairperson, Moussa Faki of Chad, will step down after his term. Raila’s victory would place Kenya at the helm of the continent’s leadership. Cherargei believes this is a time for Kenyans to unite, pray, and support Raila’s vision for a better Africa.
