The former DP revealed that close allies of President William Ruto were plotting to launch multiple political parties. He claimed their goal was to confuse Mt Kenya voters and divide their support.
“For strategic reasons, I will not announce the party today. I will announce it in May, and we will launch it in a colorful ceremony,” he said.
Rigathi Gachagua Fails to Name New Political Party Ahead of 2027 Poll, Cites Strategic Reasons
Gachagua warned that some of the new parties were being set up to field presidential candidates to split the Mt Kenya vote.
“We know there is a plan to launch more political parties to confuse the region. We are aware that some of these parties are meant to plant presidential candidates to divide our people,” he added.
“During Moi’s time in 1992, we had Matiba and Kibaki running. That division helped Moi win. We are doing everything possible to identify such parties and inform our people about planted candidates,” he explained.
May 2025: The Official Announcement
Despite holding back the announcement, Gachagua disclosed that he would unveil the new political party in May 2025. He also hinted at its distinct identity.
Ahead of the media interview, Gachagua met with his close allies to finalize the report, which could significantly shift the country’s political landscape.
“This afternoon, I met with Team Sauti Ya Wananchi to discuss and prepare for this evening’s media interview. We will present an interim report after a lengthy consultation with Kenyans on the way forward,” he stated.
