Raila Odinga Thanks Ruto for Spirited Support in His Failed AUC Bid: “Did Everything Possible”
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has spoken out after his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship. Addressing a gathering in Addis Ababa, Raila expressed deep gratitude to President William Ruto for his unwavering support throughout the campaign.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Raila assured his supporters that the president had done everything possible to secure his victory.
“Ruto Did Everything Possible”
Speaking during a dinner event, Raila praised Ruto’s dedication, acknowledging the president’s tireless efforts.
“President Ruto did everything possible to make the campaign a success. We were ready to win, but other factors came about which you will get to hear about soon,” Raila stated.
His remarks aimed to quell speculation and blame, urging his supporters to accept the results and move forward.
No Blame, No Regrets
The ODM leader emphasized unity, asking his supporters not to engage in blame games. He accepted defeat graciously and reaffirmed his commitment to future endeavors.

“Raila Odinga Thanks Ruto for Spirited Support in His Failed AUC Bid: “Did Everything Possible” after this. I conceded defeat and congratulated my opponent. I am not regretting. I am walking with my head high. There will be another time and other things to do,” he assured his audience.
Ruto Calls Raila Africa’s Best Candidate
President Ruto, who also addressed the gathering, expressed disappointment over Raila’s loss. He acknowledged Raila’s commitment and energy throughout the campaign, hailing him as the best candidate for the job.
“I am proud because Baba made me proud. He was the best candidate we had. He was always available for campaigns, traversed the continent, and was energized. He drove the campaign as it should have been,” Ruto stated.
The president voiced his regret, not just for Kenya, but for the entire African continent, which he believes missed out on Raila’s leadership.
“I am disappointed. I am disappointed because Raila did not win, even though he was the best candidate. I regret that Africa missed an opportunity to be served by one of the finest leaders of our continent,” he added.
What’s Next for Raila?
With the AUC bid behind him, Raila remains optimistic about the future. While he has not disclosed his next move, his statement hinted at future plans.
For now, he urges his supporters to remain hopeful and united, signaling that his political journey is far from over.
