Kalonzo Musyoka Shifts Position, Calls on Raila to Return If AUC Bid Fails

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dramatically altered his stance on Raila Odinga’s political future. Previously, he insisted Raila should retire if he loses the African Union Commission (AUC) chair bid. Now, he urges Raila to return to politics if the election does not go as planned.

A Call for Unity and Liberation

Speaking in Isiolo, Kalonzo passionately appealed to the former prime minister.

“Raila is going to look for a seat at the AU. I am telling him to go. However, if things don’t go as expected, he should return so that we liberate the country. How many are saying that we should liberate the country?” he asked, rallying the crowd.

His shift in tone comes just days before the highly anticipated AUC election scheduled for Saturday, February 15. Political analysts suggest Kalonzo is positioning himself for a potential alliance with Raila should he return to the local political scene.

Arrests Spark Political Tensions

Kalonzo also strongly condemned the recent arrests of 43 youths in Isiolo. The arrests followed President William Ruto’s heckling on the final day of his North-Eastern tour.

According to the police, they targeted suspected drug peddlers, illicit alcohol dealers, and criminal elements. County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding confirmed the security operation ran from Friday night through Sunday. Authorities detained individuals found loitering in the town past midnight.

Kalonzo, however, dismissed the government’s justification, claiming the arrests were politically motivated.

“Kenya Must Be Governed Democratically”

Condemning Kenya Kwanza’s leadership, Kalonzo accused the ruling party of suppressing dissent.

“We must liberate our country. If we liberate this country, everybody will be able to breathe fresh air,” he asserted.

His remarks highlight growing tensions between opposition leaders and the government. With Raila’s AUC bid looming, the political landscape remains uncertain. If Raila loses, Kalonzo’s invitation may signal a major shift in Kenya’s opposition politics.
