Raila Confident of Winning AUC Job: “I Have the Numbers”

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has exuded confidence in winning the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson seat in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at Business Bay Square (BBS) Mall in Eastleigh, Raila declared he has secured the support needed to clinch victory.

“The campaigns have been successful. We have done our campaigns over the length and breadth of Africa, and we are sure we will get the votes from most countries of the continent,” he stated.

Without disclosing specific details, he assured his supporters that he has the numbers required to secure the seat.

Battle for the AUC Seat

Raila will face stiff competition from Djibouti’s Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato. The elections, scheduled for February 15–16, will take place during the Heads of State and Government 38th summit at the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

To win, a candidate must secure 32 votes out of 49. While AU has 55 member states, six are ineligible to vote.

Raila has already visited 40 African countries, rallying support for his bid. His extensive campaign has positioned him as a frontrunner in the race.

Support from Leaders

During his visit to BBS Mall, Raila was accompanied by Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, BBS Chairperson Abdiweli Mohamed Hassan, and Eastleigh North Ward MCA Ahmad Dabar.

President William Ruto and Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud have also visited the mall before, highlighting its significance as a major commercial hub.

Economic Vision for Africa

While addressing the media, Raila praised the development of BBS Mall, emphasizing its role in economic growth and job creation.

“This effort shows that it can also be done in Kenya, not only in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Our people can do it. If we have more of such developments in Kenya, then why should we go to Dubai? Nairobi can also change,” he remarked.

“The campaigns have been successful. We have done our campaigns over the length and breadth of Africa, and we are sure we will get the votes from most countries of the continent,” Says Raila

He lauded the mall’s impact on business and employment, urging more investments to uplift Kenya’s economy.

If elected AUC chairperson, Raila promised to support African entrepreneurs in expanding their operations across the continent.

What Lies Ahead?

With the elections fast approaching, Raila’s camp remains optimistic. His political experience and strong networks could work in his favor. However, his rivals are also mobilizing support, making the race unpredictable.

The coming days will be crucial as Africa watches to see who will take over the AUC leadership.
