Babu Owino Fires Back at Raila Odinga’s Endorsement of Sakaja: “God Endorsed Me”
Nairobi politics took a dramatic twist when former Prime Minister Raila Odinga praised Governor Johnson Sakaja’s leadership. Speaking at a prayer function at Bomas of Kenya, Raila commended Sakaja’s governance, sparking speculation of an endorsement for his 2027 re-election bid.
ODM leaders present advised Sakaja to ditch UDA and join their party. The move left many wondering about the fate of Babu Owino, a fierce Raila loyalist who is rumored to be eyeing the same seat.
Babu Owino Unshaken: “God Endorsed Me”
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino responded with defiance, dismissing any concerns about Raila’s remarks. He emphasized that his political destiny is shaped by the electorate and divine favor, not individual endorsements.
“When Baba endorsed Sakaja, as you are saying, there’s nothing wrong with that. Baba Owino has been endorsed by the Almighty God and Kenyans,” Babu declared in a fiery TV interview.
A Metaphorical Rebuttal

“If a prodigal son returns home, we will slaughter an animal for him—even if it’s a squirrel. We will welcome him,” he said, implying that Sakaja’s political shift would not erase past failures.
Still Loyal to Raila, But Doubtful of Sakaja
Despite the apparent disagreement, Babu reaffirmed his loyalty to Raila. He maintained that his criticism of Sakaja was based on ideology, not personal animosity.
“I love Baba. He is my leader. My issue with Sakaja is about governance, not personal differences,” Babu clarified.
However, he questioned Sakaja’s sincerity in aligning with Raila, arguing that the governor was merely seeking political advantage.
“Sakaja being Baba’s son might not mean well for the same dad. If Baba had a candidate that Ruto was supporting for the AUC chairmanship, Sakaja would have campaigned for that person, not Baba,” he asserted.
Nairobi Politics Heats Up
With 2027 looming, the battle for Nairobi’s top seat is intensifying. Babu’s reaction highlights the underlying power struggles in ODM. While Raila’s influence remains significant, Babu’s confidence suggests that he is ready to challenge the party’s traditional political dynamics.
Only time will tell if Sakaja’s growing ties with Raila will secure his re-election or if Babu Owino will ride on divine favor and the people’s will to clinch the seat.
