While some embrace the ODM-UDA partnership, others fiercely resist it. The result has been heated accusations and political threats. Some members have even suggested impeaching Governor Orengo for refusing to join the pro-government side.
Raila Steps In
As the internal fire rages, Raila has stepped forward. Speaking through his spokesperson Dennis Onyango, Raila confirmed he is closely monitoring the situation.
“Raila Odinga believes the discussions are not unique to ODM and are in line with similar such engagements that have gone on in equally strong parties in established democracies,” Onyango stated.
Rather than dismiss the disagreements, Raila sees them as signs of healthy democratic debate. However, he also expressed disappointment with the insults and bitterness exchanged among members.
Call for Respect and Unity
In a firm yet hopeful message, Raila emphasized the need for respectful dialogue. He urged party leaders to stop personal attacks and to speak with decorum.
“Raila appeals to ODM members and leaders to exercise decorum, civility, restraint and respect for each other as they debate the current state of affairs and the future of the party,” Onyango noted.
He also assured members that internal organs of the party would meet soon. These meetings will help forge a unified position on the ODM-UDA collaboration, considering all viewpoints.

Despite the tension, Raila remains confident that ODM will stay united and continue focusing on national interests.
“He assures members that the party will remain united and focused on matters of interest to the nation,” Onyango concluded.
