ODM MP Regrets Fight with EALA Counterpart, Claims She Was Defending Herself: “Blindsided Me”
A dramatic physical altercation between two female legislators at the Parliament Buildings has sent shockwaves across Kenya. The fight, captured on camera and widely circulated online, featured ODM-nominated MP Umulkheir Harun and EALA member Falhada Iman.
The clash, reportedly fueled by long-standing political differences, quickly turned physical, leaving onlookers stunned. In the footage, the two women can be seen exchanging heated words before lunging at each other. Security officers and other MPs rushed in to break up the scuffle.
“I Was Blindsided” – Harun Speaks Out
Speaking after the incident, MP Umulkheir Harun expressed deep regret but claimed she was acting in self-defense.
“She came to Parliament to do nothing but attack me, an incident that blindsided me and left me questioning what faulted the ambush,” Harun said.
She further clarified that the fight did not stem from her actions, emphasizing that she was caught completely off-guard. According to Harun, she had no prior knowledge of Iman’s intentions.
Self-Defense or Political Tension?
While emotions flared, Harun distanced herself from violence. She reiterated her commitment to conduct becoming of a national leader.
“I sincerely regret this occurrence and want to emphasize that I do not endorse or encourage any form of misconduct…particularly as a Muslim woman,” she stated.
Despite the emotional toll, Harun reported the matter to authorities. She is now calling for a full investigation. On the other hand, EALA MP Falhada Iman has not yet issued any public statement.
Online Outrage and Mixed Reactions
Meanwhile, the video of the scuffle sparked online debate. At the peak of the chaos, a male voice was heard urging the fight to continue. Shockingly, he dismissed calls to stop filming the altercation.
This behavior fueled more criticism, with many calling it irresponsible and insensitive. Social media users, activists, and political analysts alike condemned the bystander’s actions.

Leaders Must Set Better Example
As tension between the two leaders simmers, Kenyans are demanding accountability. Many insist that elected leaders must resolve disputes through dialogue, not violence.
While Harun has taken steps to report the incident and express remorse, all eyes are now on EALA’s Iman for her response.

The public awaits answers—and more importantly—leadership.
