MPs Demand Reclamation of Donated Kisumu State House Land Over Rising Security Threats

Tension is mounting around Kisumu State Lodge after lawmakers raised alarm over a donated piece of land now posing serious security risks. The Administration and Internal Security Committee has recommended that the government reclaim the land, which was previously handed over to Kenya Railways and the Kenya Coast Guard.

“Reclaim the Land for Safety,” Lodge Manager Urges

During an inspection tour of Kisumu and Kakamega State Lodges, Kisumu Lodge Manager Vincent Ndubi voiced deep concern over the donated land.

“For security and safety purposes, the land that was donated should be reclaimed back to State House,” Ndubi stated.

He emphasized that the land’s current use compromises the lodge’s strategic integrity and exposes it to potential threats. The committee agreed, noting that consolidating the lodge’s holdings is critical for national security.

MPs Push for Perimeter Wall and Urgent Renovations

Besides land reclamation, Ndubi urged the committee to prioritize the construction of a perimeter wall around the lodge.

“We need a secure boundary. A perimeter wall will help protect the facility,” he added.

The Kisumu State Lodge has already been earmarked for renovations under the 2025/26 financial year, with a proposed allocation of Ksh77 million.

Kakamega Lodge Faces Sanitation Crisis

Meanwhile, at the Kakamega State Lodge, Manager Gladys Khisa raised a different concern—failing sewer connections. She revealed that the lodge is not linked to the main sewer line, located five kilometers away.

“We urgently need funds to connect to the main sewer. The current system is deteriorating,” Khisa pleaded.

Despite receiving Ksh28.1 million, the lodge still falls short of its Ksh34 million requirement. MPs promised to review the budget and address the shortfall.

Nakuru State House Also Under Scrutiny

This marks the second time in a week that MPs have flagged a State facility. Just days earlier, Nakuru State House was criticized for poor conditions, including a leaking roof and inadequate security.

Committee Chair Gabriel Tongoyo confirmed that lawmakers visited the residence to assess ongoing refurbishment efforts.

“We found several vulnerabilities—from flawed infrastructure to weak security systems,” Tongoyo revealed.

Parliament Demands Action

With multiple State facilities facing serious challenges, MPs are now calling for swift government intervention. They insist that national security must never be compromised by poor planning or neglected infrastructure.

“These lodges are symbols of state authority. We must protect them,” Tongoyo concluded.
