KURA Extends Eldoret Road Closure by 3 Months as Mlolongo-Kamulu Road Faces New Disruption
In a notice issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, KURA said the road, which was initially scheduled to reopen on September 18, will now remain closed until 6pm on December 30, 2026.

“The extension has become necessary due to unforeseen logistical and site-related challenges encountered during the construction of the Vehicular Bridge across the Nairobi River, including delays in the delivery of critical construction materials and equipment, which were beyond the contractor’s control.”
KURA said it and the contractor remained committed to completing the project within the revised timeline while meeting the required safety and quality standards.
“The Authority and the contractor remain committed to completing the works to the required safety and quality standards within the revised timeline.”
Motorists Advised to Use Alternative Routes
The prolonged closure is expected to affect motorists who regularly use the corridor to connect different parts of Nairobi.
Motorists can use parallel local roads in Eastlands and other major connectors leading towards Jogoo Road and surrounding arterial roads. Depending on their destinations, drivers can also use connections around Ngong Road, Mbagathi Road and Lang’ata Road.
The authority has urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and follow instructions from traffic officers and marshals.
Mlolongo-Kamulu Road to Close From October 1
In a separate notice, KURA announced another traffic disruption along the Mlolongo-Kamulu Road, also known as Quarry Road.

The road will be partially closed from Thursday, October 1, to Tuesday, December 1, 2026, to allow contractors to undertake construction works along the affected section.
“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to notify the general public of a temporary traffic disruption along the Mlolongo–Kamulu (Quarry Road), effective Thursday, 1 October 2026 until Tuesday, 1 December 2026.”
The disruption will affect motorists travelling between Mlolongo, Kamulu, Syokimau and surrounding areas.
Heavy commercial vehicles, meanwhile, have been advised to use Tuffoam Road during the closure period.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to follow all traffic signs and instructions given by police officers and traffic marshals, who will be stationed on site to ensure smooth traffic flow.”

The two projects mean motorists using key routes in Nairobi and its outskirts will need to factor in additional travel time as construction activities continue through the final months of 2026.
