KNEC to Release 2025 KCSE Results on Friday
Anticipation is high among candidates, parents, and schools across the country as the Ministry of Education prepares to release the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results on Friday, January 9, marking a critical milestone for nearly one million candidates who sat the national examination.
According to officials from the Ministry of Education, Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba is scheduled to officially announce the results in Eldoret at 9:30 a.m. The announcement will signal the conclusion of the examination cycle and open the pathway for students seeking placement in universities, colleges, and other post-secondary institutions.
The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted over a five-week period, beginning on October 21 and concluding on November 21, 2025. The exercise involved 996,000 candidates from public and private secondary schools nationwide, making it one of the largest cohorts in the history of the examination.
Education officials have described the KCSE as a pivotal assessment that determines learners’ academic progression and career pathways, with performance influencing admission to higher education institutions and access to government-sponsored placements.

In preparation for the release, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) activated its online results portal earlier this week, allowing parents and candidates to familiarize themselves with the system ahead of the official announcement. However, the portal currently indicates that results can only be accessed once the Ministry of Education formally releases them.
KNEC officials say the early activation is part of routine technical preparations aimed at ensuring the system is fully operational and capable of handling the heavy online traffic expected once results go live.
Once the results are officially announced, candidates will be required to log into the KNEC portal using their index numbers and the examination year to access their provisional results. The online results are expected to complement other official channels that will be communicated by the ministry.
In the days leading up to the release, the Ministry of Education moved to dismiss circulating claims on social media suggesting that the KCSE results had already been released. Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba addressed the misinformation in a statement issued on Saturday, January 3.
“Treat such fake and misleading news with the contempt it deserves,” Ogamba said, warning the public against relying on unverified sources for sensitive national information.
The ministry emphasized that the release of national examination results follows a strict and transparent process, including marking, verification, and quality assurance, to uphold the integrity of the examinations.

Education stakeholders have urged candidates and parents to remain calm as they await the official announcement, noting that anxiety and speculation often peak during the final days before results are released.
The 2025 KCSE results come amid continued reforms in the education sector, including tighter exam security measures and efforts to curb irregularities. Officials say these measures are intended to ensure fairness and credibility in national assessments.

As Friday approaches, schools across the country are making final preparations to receive and interpret the results, while candidates look ahead to the next phase of their academic journeys. The release is expected to dominate national attention, with performance trends likely to spark debate on education standards, regional outcomes, and future policy direction.
