Kenyan Woman Among 3 Rescued From Suspected Sex Racket in India
The Kenyan national was among three women rescued during the operation on Saturday, October 3, as Indian authorities moved to investigate allegations of a prostitution network operating through hotels in the area.
Danapur is located about 14 kilometres west of central Patna, the capital of Bihar State in eastern India.
According to reports from India, police first raided a hotel where they found the Kenyan woman.

The investigation was subsequently extended to another hotel in the area, where police rescued two more women.
Police seize phones and hotel records
During the second operation, officers reportedly seized two mobile phones, items described by police as objectionable and the hotel’s register.
The seized materials are expected to help investigators establish how the suspected racket operated and identify people who may have been involved.
Police are reportedly examining the mobile phones and hotel records for information that could lead to intermediaries and other suspects connected to the alleged prostitution network.
Two hotel managers were arrested during the operation, according to reports by The Times of India.
The Kenyan woman was placed in protective custody following her rescue as investigations continued.
Indian authorities are also expected to follow diplomatic and consular procedures concerning her welfare and identity.
Investigators are expected to review the available records as they seek to determine whether the women were voluntarily involved or had been exploited.
Concerns over trafficking of Kenyan women
The rescue comes amid continued concerns over the trafficking of Kenyan women to Asian countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised concerns over fake job advertisements targeting Kenyans seeking employment abroad.
In some cases, victims are reportedly promised legitimate jobs before being transported to foreign countries and exposed to exploitation.

Some Kenyans travelling to Asian countries have reportedly been recruited through advertisements promising jobs in hospitality, domestic work and other sectors.
Authorities expand investigation
The Patna operation is expected to continue as investigators examine evidence recovered from the hotels.
The mobile phones and hotel registers could provide information about communications, bookings and individuals who may have facilitated the alleged activities.
For the Kenyan woman, authorities are expected to work through diplomatic channels to establish her identity, ensure her safety and determine the circumstances that led to her presence at the hotel.
Kenyan authorities have repeatedly urged citizens to verify overseas job opportunities and recruitment agencies before travelling.

As investigations continue in Patna, Indian authorities are expected to establish whether the three women were victims of trafficking, exploitation or another form of organised criminal activity.
