Nairobi, Kenya – Political activist Kasmuel McOure has publicly dismissed claims that he is seeking leadership within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), clarifying his position amid controversy surrounding the party’s Youth League presidency.

The clarification comes just days after ODM issued a statement on Saturday, November 15, affirming that Johnmark Ketorah is the legitimate Youth League President. The party’s announcement sought to quell speculation that McOure had been appointed to the role following the circulation of a publication during ODM’s 20th Anniversary celebrations.

“The President of the ODM Youth League is Honourable Johnmark Ketorah. Ignore any publication circulating containing misleading information on the same,” ODM stated.

Kasmuel’s Response

Speaking on Tuesday, November 18, McOure said he was comfortable serving ODM in any capacity, stressing that his involvement in the party was motivated by commitment rather than pursuit of titles.

“There is no work within the ODM party that I consider too small for me. The moment you join ODM, you come face-to-face with the sheer labour it takes to run a movement, especially when you love it,” he explained.

McOure further dismissed suggestions that he was positioning himself for leadership, insisting that ODM’s strength lies in collective effort rather than individual ambition.

“So let no one, no pretender of convenience, imagine that there is any task I would consider beneath me. In ODM, we do not chase titles. We ask one thing only: how best can we deliver for our people?” he added.

While reiterating his loyalty to ODM, McOure urged the party’s leadership to support emerging political talents, noting that many young members who actively defend the party remain unrecognised.

“Our party needs workers, people who defend it on every front. It needs the vim and vigour of youth. It needs consensus builders. It needs volunteers,” he argued.
