Justin Muturi’s Past Kenya Kwanza Support Video Resurfaces Amid Party’s Exit

A video of Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi pledging his unwavering support for President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition has resurfaced. This comes after the Democratic Party (DP), which Muturi once led, issued a 30-day notice to exit the coalition.

In a statement on Wednesday, March 12, Democratic Party Secretary General Jacob Haji confirmed the party’s decision.

“Kindly note that the Kenya Kwanza coalition is no longer tenable due to the prevailing political developments,” Haji stated.

The announcement has raised questions about Muturi’s political stance and whether he still aligns with Ruto’s administration.

Muturi’s Firm Stand Before 2022 Elections

Months before the 2022 General Election, Muturi, then the National Assembly Speaker, made a bold declaration. He announced his full commitment to the Kenya Kwanza coalition, openly defying pressure to support Raila Odinga’s Azimio coalition, which was endorsed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a resurfaced video, Muturi was seen signing an agreement at the Hermosa Hotel in Karen. The event marked his official entry into Kenya Kwanza.

While addressing the press, Muturi made a strong statement.

“Your Excellency, the Deputy President, nashukuru. Hata mimi sipangwingwi. I refused that. My age does not allow me to be told what to do. Sipangwingwi!” he declared.

The declaration, a direct rejection of external political influence, showcased his independent political ideology. Ruto, visibly pleased, handed Muturi a cap bearing Kenya Kwanza symbols. They shook hands as a sign of their alliance.

What’s Next for Muturi and Kenya Kwanza?

With the Democratic Party’s exit looming, Muturi finds himself in an uncomfortable position. As a senior government official, his loyalty to Kenya Kwanza remains crucial. However, his party’s decision raises concerns about possible divisions within Ruto’s administration.

Kenyans on social media have reacted to the resurfaced video with mixed opinions. Some accuse Muturi of abandoning the party that propelled him into national politics. Others believe his role in the government should supersede party affiliations.

Political analysts speculate that Muturi might be forced to make a tough choice—remain in Kenya Kwanza or stand by his former party’s decision.

For now, all eyes are on the next political moves by Muturi and the response from President Ruto’s inner circle.
