Justin Muturi Denies Viral Statement Claiming Mt Kenya East Political Split
Muturi said the document circulating on social media was fake and fraudulent, insisting that he neither authored nor approved the statement.
He also rejected the signature appearing on the document, saying it had been forged without his knowledge or consent.
The disputed statement, dated September 2 in Nairobi, purported to be a joint communication by leaders from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties.
“I have taken note of a document being circulated on social media and other platforms, purporting to be a joint press statement by leaders from Mt. Kenya East and bearing my name and signature,” Muturi stated.
“I wish to categorically state that this document is fake and fraudulent. I did not author it, I did not sign it, and I did not consent to its publication or circulation. The signature attributed to me has been forged,” he added.

Fake statement claims Mt Kenya East marginalisation
It alleged that Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi had provided significant electoral support but received fewer government appointments, tenders and major development projects compared with counties in Mt Kenya West.
The purported statement also claimed that leaders from the eastern region wanted to independently determine their political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, Muturi’s denial means the document cannot be treated as evidence that the named leaders endorsed the position attributed to them.
“We must also speak to the selective outrage over the impact of the new law. The noise was loud, but it conveniently ignored that Mr. Gachagua was replaced by Mr. Kithure Kindiki, a son of Mr. Kenyatta, a man very big and qualified as those who came before him,” the disputed document stated.
Muturi alleges political misinformation

His remarks come amid growing political debate over the future of the Mt Kenya region and competing attempts to consolidate political support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku has recently attracted attention over remarks concerning political divisions within the Mt Kenya region.
The debate has also emerged against the backdrop of the broad-based government arrangement involving President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Muturi’s latest statement adds another layer to the political debate, particularly over claims of an emerging divide between Mt Kenya East and Mt Kenya West.
