Horror in Mai Mahiu as Trailer Slams Into ENA Bus
Several lives are feared lost after a deadly crash involving an ENA Coach bus and a trailer in Mai Mahiu.
The accident happened around 11pm on Saturday night along the notorious steep climb section.
Brakes Failed, Chaos Followed
According to eyewitnesses, the Nairobi-bound ENA Coach bus was travelling towards Migori when disaster struck.
A trailer, whose brakes allegedly failed, rammed the bus from behind. The heavy impact pushed the bus into other vehicles, including personal cars.
“It was sudden. The trailer came too fast, and we heard a huge bang,” said a shaken survivor.
Within seconds, the road turned into a scene of twisted metal and shattered glass.

Victims Rushed to Hospital
Emergency responders quickly arrived. Several injured passengers were taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
Although fatalities have been confirmed, the exact number remains unclear. Authorities say an official update will follow after ongoing assessments.
Grim Images and Shattered Lives
Photos seen from the scene show the bus overturned on the roadside. Mangled personal cars lay in the middle of the road, blocking traffic for hours.
Residents watched in horror as rescue teams worked under the cover of night.
A Deadly Week on Kenyan Roads
This tragedy comes just two days after 25 people died in Kisumu County. That Friday evening, a school bus carrying mourners veered off the road at Coptic Roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.
“Ten women, ten men, and one girl died at the scene,” police confirmed.
Twenty more were injured. Four later died in hospital.
On Thursday, another crash claimed nine lives in Naivasha. A Kenya Pipeline Company bus collided with a cargo train at Morendat Junction after attempting to cross the railway in front of the oncoming locomotive.
Authorities Call for Caution
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) says investigations into all three crashes are underway.
“We urge motorists to exercise caution, especially on steep and dangerous sections,” an NTSA official said.
Safety experts warn that brake failures, reckless overtaking, and speeding remain major causes of such disasters.

As Mai Mahiu mourns, the nation is once again forced to confront the deadly state of its roads. For many families tonight, the journey home ended in heartbreak.
