Husband of Slain Nakuru M-Pesa Attendant Arraigned as Investigations Deepen
Nakuru, Kenya – June 4, 2025 – The husband of 23-year-old M-Pesa attendant, Hannah Wangare, has been arraigned in court following her tragic death. Zachariah Wambugu Wanjohi appeared before Nakuru Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet on Tuesday, June 3. Investigators requested to detain him for 21 days to allow comprehensive investigations.
Last Known Movements
Corporal Richard Kipsang, the investigating officer, informed the court that the last mobile signal from Hannah’s phone matched the location of the accused. “The deceased’s phone signal was last traced to the same location as the suspect,” Kipsang stated. Hannah disappeared after leaving her M-Pesa shop in Nakuru CBD to deposit KSh 330,000 at a bank along Kenyatta Avenue.
Suspect’s Response
When questioned about the phone tracking details, Wanjohi claimed a friend from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had indicated that Hannah’s number was around Kijabe. However, this information did not align with the investigators’ findings.

Ongoing Investigations
Kipsang emphasized the need for more time to gather crucial evidence. “We have not recorded crucial evidence from witnesses to assist in the investigation,” he told the court. He also mentioned the necessity of forensic analysis of phones and the collection of CCTV footage from Hannah’s workplace. “We also want to have his phone taken for forensic analysis in Nairobi,” Kipsang added.
Discovery of the Body
Hannah’s body was discovered on May 26 at Technology Farm within the Rift Valley National Polytechnic. Officers from Kaptembwa Police Station transported her remains to Nakuru Annex Mortuary. This location has raised concerns as another body was found there recently, suggesting it may be used as a dumping site by criminals.
Court Proceedings
The court is set to rule on the application to detain the suspect on Wednesday, June 4. Meanwhile, the community awaits justice for Hannah, whose life was tragically cut short.
Related Developments
In a separate incident, six individuals arrested on June 2 in connection with the killing of a police officer in Nakuru will be detained for 30 days. The suspects are believed to be linked to a series of recent murders in the area. Investigating officer Catherine Munami stated that the extended detention would allow for comprehensive investigations, including forensic ballistic examinations and witness statements.
