Haitian Police Mourn Kenyan Hero Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve: “We Stand With Kenya”
A somber mood gripped Haiti and Kenya after the tragic death of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve. The Kenyan officer, deployed under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), died on Sunday, August 31, following a road accident in Pétion-Ville.
Despite swift action, Nzuve was pronounced dead at Lambert Santé Hospital. His passing has sparked grief and solidarity across borders.
Haitian Police Chief Leads Delegation to Honour Fallen Officer
On Thursday, September 4, Haitian National Police (PNH) Director General André Jonas Vladimir Paraison led a high-level delegation to meet MSS leadership. The gesture underscored Haiti’s respect for Kenya’s sacrifice.
“We deeply regret the death of Corporal Nzuve,” Paraison said. “We extend our condolences to his family, the MSS, and the people of Kenya.”
Paraison was joined by top officials, including Commander-in-Chief Berson Soljour and Inspector General Frédéric Leconte. Their presence sent a powerful message of unity and shared purpose.

Mission Continues Despite Loss
Although shaken, Paraison reaffirmed Haiti’s commitment to the MSS mission. He stressed that the fight against gangs in Port-au-Prince must go on.
“Despite losing a key member, we remain focused on eradicating criminal networks,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Nzuve’s body was airlifted to Sedimat Hospital in the Dominican Republic on Monday, September 1. Two other Kenyan officers injured in the same accident are recovering and out of danger.
Global Support for Kenya’s Role in Haiti
Kenya’s efforts in Haiti have not gone unnoticed. On August 22, US Ambassador Henry Wooster praised the Kenyan contingent for their leadership and bravery.

“Kenya’s participation in the anti-gang mission has been commendable,” Wooster said.
Additionally, the United Nations recently extended Haiti’s political mandate. This move could allow Kenyan officers to continue their deployment beyond October 2025.
However, the final decision on the mission’s extension remains uncertain.
A Nation Mourns, A Mission Marches On
Corporal Nzuve’s death is a painful reminder of the risks officers face abroad. Yet, his sacrifice has strengthened international resolve to restore peace in Haiti.
“We stand with Kenya,” Paraison declared. “Nzuve’s legacy will live on in our shared mission.”
As Kenya mourns its fallen hero, the world watches with admiration and respect.
