Germany Opens Scholarship Opportunities for Kenyans With Ksh106,000 Monthly Stipend
The scholarship programme, announced by the German Embassy Nairobi on May 6, offers successful applicants a monthly allowance of 700 Euros, equivalent to approximately Ksh106,000, alongside accommodation, insurance, and travel expenses.
The opportunity is expected to attract hundreds of Kenyan graduates and young professionals seeking international exposure and hands-on experience within Germany’s parliamentary system.

The embassy announced, “The German Embassy in Nairobi is excited to announce the International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) in Germany.”
According to the programme details, the IPS initiative aims to provide politically and socially engaged young people from across the world with an opportunity to gain practical understanding of how parliamentary democracy operates in Germany.
Each year, approximately 120 participants from nearly 50 countries are selected to participate in the highly competitive programme hosted in Berlin.
The initiative is conducted in partnership with leading German institutions including Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Technische Universität Berlin.
The programme runs for five months and exposes participants to parliamentary work, policymaking processes, and academic studies focused on governance and political systems.
During the stay in Berlin, participants are attached to members of the German Bundestag, where they gain first-hand experience in legislative work and democratic processes.
Programme organisers explained, “Participants gain in-depth insight into Germany’s parliamentary system and democratic institutions through direct engagement with lawmakers and academic institutions.”

In addition to the monthly stipend, successful applicants will receive fully funded accommodation and round-trip travel expenses to and from Berlin.
Participants will also benefit from accident, health, and liability insurance throughout the programme period.
Eligibility requirements indicate that applicants must be Kenyan citizens, hold a university degree in any discipline, and demonstrate strong social or political engagement.
Applicants must also be below 30 years of age at the beginning of the programme.
Of major importance is proficiency in the German language, with candidates required to possess at least Level B2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The organisers stressed, “Applicants must demonstrate a very good command of the German language alongside a clear interest in politics and social issues.”

The German government says the programme is designed to nurture future leaders capable of promoting democratic values, civic participation, and international cooperation.
The required application documents include academic certificates, proof of language proficiency, a motivational letter, recommendation letters, and evidence of social or political involvement.
The application deadline has been set for May 15, 2026, with shortlisted candidates expected to undergo further selection processes before the final intake is announced.

Analysts further argue that such scholarships can help strengthen diplomatic and educational ties between Kenya and Germany while empowering youth participation in governance and policy discussions.
