Gachagua Warns Ruto: “Don’t Set Foot in Meru If You Remove CJ Koome!”

Meru witnessed a fiery political showdown as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua strongly warned President William Ruto against plans to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome. Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Igembe North on Sunday, February 23, Gachagua accused Ruto of plotting to destabilize Mt. Kenya’s leadership.

Is There a Plot Against Koome?

Gachagua alleged that Ruto and his close allies were working behind the scenes to oust Koome. He warned that removing her would be a direct attack on the region’s political and economic influence.

“Rais amepanga kufukuza Justice Martha Koome. Amepanga pale kortini na amehonga watu! Ukifukuza Martha Koome, usijaribu kukanyaga hapa Meru tena!” Gachagua warned.

Gachagua to Ruto: “Oust Koome and Forget Meru Forever!

His passionate speech stirred emotions among locals, who cheered him on. He insisted that the community must resist what he described as a political purge targeting its leadership.

Mount Kenya Will Not Be Silent-Gachagua to Ruto

Gachagua vowed to lead mass protests if Koome is removed. He questioned why the president was allegedly targeting leaders from the region that overwhelmingly supported his election.

“This is too much now. How do you purge the leadership of an entire community that made you president? If Koome is dismissed and I call for protests, will you come out? We are not going to sit again as Ruto destroys the leadership of Mount Kenya,” he declared.

He further cautioned Mt. Kenya leaders allied to Kenya Kwanza, urging residents to reject them in the 2027 General Election.

Reject Ruto’s Allies in 2027

Gachagua told voters to punish any leader supporting Ruto by voting them out in the next election. He insisted that Mt. Kenya must stand together to protect its interests.

“Anyone supporting this injustice should not expect our votes. We must defend our region from betrayal,” he told the crowd.

JSC Receives Petition to Remove Koome

Meanwhile, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) confirmed receiving a petition to remove CJ Koome and six other Supreme Court judges.

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi accused Koome’s bench of gross misconduct. His petition also called for the removal of High Court judges Alfred Mabeya and Lucas Naikuni over alleged misbehavior.

Another petition, filed by Edwin Dande of Cytonn Investment, also accused Mabeya of misconduct. The JSC stated that all petitions would be reviewed before making a final decision.

With political temperatures rising, all eyes are now on Ruto, Koome, and the JSC’s next move. Will Koome survive the storm, or is her fate sealed?
