Gachagua Questions Raila’s Health, ODM Fires Back as Rumors Intensify

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ignited a political storm after questioning Raila Odinga’s health and his recent absence from public view. Speaking on KTN News on Sunday, October 5, Gachagua dismissed ODM’s explanation as vague and amateurish.

“Don’t Write Letters, Show Up”—Gachagua Challenges Raila

Gachagua urged Raila to address health rumors through public appearances, not written statements.

“If a leader is said to be unwell, and he is well, you just ignore and go on with life,” Gachagua said. “You don’t need to write a letter. Just show up,” he added.

He referenced former President Daniel Arap Moi’s approach to health speculation.

“Moi would disappear for days. Then he’d walk from KICC to Harambee House. Rumors ended instantly,” Gachagua recalled.

Despite the criticism, Gachagua expressed hope that Raila remains healthy ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I pray God gives Raila long life and good health,” he said. “So we can defeat both Raila and Ruto in 2027,” he added.

His remarks stirred mixed reactions, with many questioning the sincerity behind the statement.

“This Is Misinformation”—ODM Hits Back Hard

ODM responded swiftly, accusing Gachagua and the United Opposition of spreading falsehoods for political gain.

“Gachagua and his struggling team are on a familiar campaign of misinformation,” ODM stated. “They’re using bloggers and AI-generated images to mislead the public,” the statement added.

ODM insisted that Raila is not indisposed and would have issued a public statement if he were ill.

“No Ill Will”—Wiper Defends Kalonzo Amid ODM Accusations

Wiper Party, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, also entered the fray, dismissing ODM’s claims as desperate and misleading.

“Let it be stated clearly, Kalonzo harbors no ill will toward Mr. Odinga,” said Wiper Secretary General Shakila Aballa. “The two leaders share a long history of cooperation and mutual respect,” she added.

The back-and-forth has exposed deep cracks within the opposition, raising concerns about unity ahead of 2027.

Raila’s prolonged absence and the postponement of ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations have fueled speculation.
